Monica Turewicz, M.Ed., LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
SHE/HER
Monica Turewicz graduated from Loyola University with a Master’s degree in Community Counseling and holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Duke University. She has a range of experience from working in emergency room settings as a medical advocate for survivors of sexual assault, as an ER crisis counselor, to providing individual counseling for adults in a private practice setting. Monica emphasizes connection and context when it comes to mental wellbeing – using a decolonization framework she considers how we relate to ourselves, each other, and the world around us. She strives to include community, creativity, play, curiosity, and integrity in work with clients. Monica believes in each client’s ability to reflect, and approaches clinical work by promoting self-awareness, self-agency, and transformation, walking alongside clients with a gentle nudge. While supporting individuals with some heavy realities, she also sees the importance of sharing moments of lightness and humor while building together.
Monica supports individuals navigating depression, complex trauma, anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, and OCD. Passionate about working with OCD, an experience far too often misunderstood and misrepresented, she is trained in and uses Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy. As a former Division I & professional athlete, she additionally works with current/former athletes, and those exploring identities and transition after sports. Living with chronic migraines, Monica also sees individuals who also struggle with chronic pain. She is a first-generation American from a Polish immigrant family and brings an intermediate Polish proficiency to her practice.
In her free time, you can find Monica taking singing classes, dancing salsa & contemporary, skateboarding, and stuffing her face with gummy bears.
